FAQ

Why do we do communion every week?
In the Bible, we see that the church began doing this on the first day of the week and we continue to follow their example (Acts 20:7). At Essential we do communion by dipping a piece of bread into the cup.
What if I am gluten intolerant?
A gluten-free bread option is available on the center communion table as indicated.
Why do we use the hand sanitizer during communion?
Before people would partake of any ritual meal in the Bible, they would wash their hands. This is a time to reflect on our need to purify ourselves.
What denomination is Essential?
We focus on the essentials of the Christian faith and do not reflect any denominational distinctives. However, for the purpose of sharing Jesus with the world we partner with several different denominational and non-denominational groups.
You don’t take up an offering, how do people give?
Giving to others embodies what Jesus was all about and God never wants you to give based on emotion or guilt (2 Cor. 9:6-8). There are three ways to return back to God a portion of what He’s blessed you with:
  • In person by placing it in the black boxes just outside the worship center.
  • Online, either through your own online banking or via the secure giving link on our website
  • By texting any amount to 84321
How do I join Essential?
First and most importantly, we encourage you to join “The Church”, which happens when you choose to place your faith in Jesus.  At Essential there are only two things to join, a small group and a service team.  For more information about getting connected at Essential, stop by the welcome tent on your way out this morning.  You can find out more information about small groups here and service opportunities here.
What about my Kids?
Can I bring my kids into the worship service?
Our teams have great age-appropriate areas for your child from birth through 5th grade. Your child will fit right in and will become one of their favorite times of the week.
What are my kids doing in Essential Kids?
They have fun exploring God’s truth with leaders who are passionate about helping them discover how the Bible makes sense in their everyday world. This happens with energetic worship, creative storytelling, and engaging games/activities. Resources are available to help you as a parent connect with what’s going on each Sunday. Ask your child’s teacher how you can get connected.
How do we create a safe environment for my kids?
We have a check in system with exclusive identification security tags, team members who have all passed a background check, and a system in place to contact you during the worship service if your child needs attention. If you receive a text message stating your child needs you, please go to the assisted check in window.
What do you have for youth?
Our Youth meet on Sunday Nights. They will have a time to hang out, have some fun, and be a part of a small group designed to help them group closer to God and others. All students 6-12 grade are welcome to attend.
Where did the name “Essential Church” come from?
Well, there were many things that led to the name:
  • We’re focused on the essentials of the faith. “On the essentials, we have unity. On the non-essentials, we have liberty.” (Augustine 354-430AD). Because of this we value salvation and restoration over denomination.
  • Jesus is the one that came up with the idea of creating a church because He knew that being a part of a church is an essential part of people’s lives. We agree.
  • Everyone in the church is essential. In 1 Corinthians 12, the people in a church are compared to the different parts of a person’s body. The point of this analogy is that every part of the body is essential (see 1 Corinthians 12:21-22).
  • When Jesus was asked what is the most essential thing in life, he responded: Love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength; and your neighbor as yourself (Mark 12:28-31). Our church is build on the foundational truths of this verse.

Welcome

The very first thing we’ll ask of you is simple: relax. You’re with friends. Even if you’ve never been in church before, we’re convinced you’ll fit right in, unless of course your phone starts ringing in the middle of the service.  If that happens you’ll stick out like a sore thumb.  This might be a good time to to turn the ringer off.

What’s in a name?

Four Hearts

The four hearts in our logo reflect the foundational truth of Mark 12:28-31. When Jesus was asked what’s the most essential thing in life, His answer was to love God and love others as you love yourself.

Love God

Our love for God is demonstrated by how we live our lives throughout the week,. On Sunday mornings we show our love for God by spending time in His presence, singing His praises, studying His Word, and remembering what He’s done for us.

Love Others

The people you do life with will determine the direction of your life. While information plays a part in guiding our decisions, information doesn’t change us, people do. One of the ways we give and receive love is to share our life with each other. Joining a small group allows you to both become more like Jesus, but also help others do the same.

Love Yourself

You need to take responsibility for your own spiritual journey. This means loving yourself enough to live a holy life and taking the steps necessary for this to happen. God wants you to follow Him in baptism, remember Him in communion, get to know Him  through studying the Bible, and spend time with Him in prayer.

Love Everyone

God’s plan to reach the world and redeem humanity is through people like you and me giving and serving. We are to go and tell everyone about what Jesus has done for us. Every opportunity to serve and every financial gift made here at Essential contributes to people hearing about Jesus.
